![]() ![]() “We were prepared for some backlash, but the trailer definitely reached way more people than we could ever anticipate, and all the hate and negativity coming our way has definitely had a huge impact on us.” “We’re both avid fans and we wanted to make something similar, but always from a place of respect and admiration for the original. “Yes, of course Cuphead was a huge inspiration for Enchanted Portals,” Gemma told Polygon over Facebook. Polygon spoke to Xixo, which is a studio comprised of two people, identified as Daniel, a director and programmer, and Gemma, an artist and composer. The two protagonists navigate their way through a variety of settings, including an underwater world and a sci-fi level, shooting Cuphead-style at big cartoonish bosses. While the first 30 seconds of the trailer are unremarkable, the gameplay portions of the trailer bear a striking resemblance to Cuphead’s signature animation. It’s the gameplay portion of the trailer that has caused a stir on social media, due to its resemblance to StudioMDHR’s Cuphead, released in 2017. The game’s trailer shows the two plucky protagonists, and their cat, getting into this pickle in the first place. The concept of Enchanted Portals is that two rookie magicians have lost their way through time and space, and must defeat bosses to find the pages of their spellbook and return home. Xixo’s latest trailer has racked up over 28,000 views on YouTube in under a day due to a controversy about the game’s art style and inspiration - namely how closely it resembles the stylish run-and-gun shooter Cuphead. The game’s developers have been posting small snippets of animation and details about their game to social media since August. Enchanted Portals is a 2D platformer currently in development by Xixo Games Studio, with a Kickstarter campaign coming soon.

For the sake of brevity, we will focus only on the regular installer from now on, but you should know that we tested the extended one the same way. Once we knew both the regular and the extended Disk Drill installer is safe, we used them to install Disk Drill in two different clean virtual environments running Windows 11. This took some time, but it served as a useful confirmation of the original results. To go a step further, we then decided to reanalyze both installers manually by clicking the “Reanalyze file” button. The results were conclusive: No security vendors and no sandboxes out of 58 flagged the file as malicious.īut what about the extended installer? Its analysis yielded the same perfect score, except that VirusTotal scanned it with even more scanners (61 instead of 58). We uploaded the regular Disk Drill installer, and VirusTotal immediately got to work. ![]() As always, our malware scanner of choice was VirusTotal (owned by Chronicle, a subsidiary of Google), a highly reputable aggregator of multiple malware scanners developed by some of the most reputable security companies in the world. Since most users will use the regular installer, we decided to scan it first. Step 2: Scanning the Disk Drill Installer At over 100 MB, the extended installer is much larger, but it comes with all the software nuts and bolts needed to get Disk Drill 5 up and running on Windows, including Microsoft’s NET Desktop Runtime. The regular installer is just around 20 MB large, and it contains only the main application files. Version 5.1.808 started downloading automatically, and we were also presented with two direct download links, one for the regular installer (the one that downloads automatically) and the other one for the extended installer (which we also downloaded). ![]() So, we headed to and visited the downloaded page. Sites that offer (or claim to offer) illegal unlocked versions of Disk Drill are especially dangerous because such sites are often riddled with malware. You can always download the up-to-date version of Disk Drill directly from the official website of its developer, CleverFiles (a subsidiary of 508 Software).ĭownloading the software elsewhere is a bad idea at best because not all third-party software download sites are legitimate.
